Paul Chous, MA, OD, FAAO

Suburban Opticians

Dr. Paul Chous completed his undergraduate education at Brown and UC Irvine, and then received his Masters and Doctorate of Optometry degrees from UC Berkeley. Paul has a private practice specializing in diabetes eye care and education in Tacoma, WA. He is the author of Diabetic Eye Disease: Lessons From a Diabetic Eye Doctor, which was included in the “Top 12 Diabetes Books” by Diabetes Update magazine in 2004. He is editorial advisor to Review of Optometry and Optometry Times, AOA representative to the National Diabetes Education Program, Primary Investigator for the Diabetes Visual Function Supplement Study (DiVFuSS), and Adjunct Professor of Optometry at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, CA. Dr. Chous has had type 1 diabetes since 1968.

Mari Fujimoto, OD, FAAO

Pacific University College of Optometry

Mari Fujimoto earned her Doctor of Optometry degree and completed a residency in Cornea and Contact Lenses at Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, OR. She is currently a full-time faculty member at Pacific University College of Optometry and is involved in contact lens course and clinical instruction, as well as clinical research.

Paul Karpecki, OD, FAAO

Kentucky Eye Institute, Lexington, KY

Paul M. Karpecki, OD, FAAO, received his doctor of optometry degree from Indiana University and completed a fellowship in medical cornea and refractive surgery in Kansas City in affiliation with the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, now Salus University. He currently serves as Clinical Director, Advanced Ocular Surface Disease at Kentucky Eye Institute in Lexington, KY.

Dr. Karpecki was appointed to the Delphi International Society at Wilmer-Johns Hopkins, which included the top 25 dry eye experts in the world and the National Eye Institute’s Dry Eye Committee to provide insights around dry eye and women. He also co-chaired the Dry Eye Summit for the profession, was a director in the CJO Optometric Dry Eye Guidelines for EyeCare, was recently selected for the DEWS II Diagnostic subcommittee and most recently appointed co-chair of the Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society Symposium in 2016 taking place in Montpellier, France. He has over two decades experience in running some of the largest dedicated dry eye clinics in the United States.

A noted educator and author, Dr. Karpecki has provided over 1000 lectures at various meetings covering 4 continents. He has also authored over 1000 papers in journals, book chapters, clinical eblasts and newsletters.
